West Mobile is one of the city’s largest and fastest-growing areas, extending west and northwest from Interstate 65 toward the outer edges of Mobile County. West Mobile’s development accelerated significantly beginning in the 1980s and 1990s as Mobile expanded westward. The area today reflects that period’s suburban expansion, with a large number of planned subdivisions built between the 1980s and the present. More recent construction continues in the outer areas, particularly along the Grelot Road, Cody Road, and Schillinger Road corridors.
Established neighborhoods from earlier periods coexist alongside newer developments, giving West Mobile a range of housing options across multiple price points and styles.
Location and access
West Mobile is bordered on the east by Interstate 65 and extends west and northwest into Mobile County. Interstate 65 provides north-south regional access. Airport Boulevard, Grelot Road, and Schillinger Road are the primary east-west corridors.
Mobile Regional Airport is centrally located in West Mobile. Downtown Mobile is approximately 20-25 minutes east depending on which part of West Mobile you’re in.
